Nolan's work with Bitcoin began in 2012 when he had an interest in money laundering. After he learned it also worked well to buy drugs, he thought the same qualities could make it great for many other things. Since then, he became a student of cryptography, decentralized systems, cryptoeconomics, the theory of the firm and alchemy.
