From his early success building prototypes and winning patents as a Lenovo Master Inventor, to his innovative work across cryptocurrency and NFTs, Greg Zaitsev has always had an eye towards the future of technology. Starting his journey in Moscow and later immigrating to the United States in 2003, Greg’s ability to take bold ideas from prototypes to production helped him transition from consumer electronics to the forefront of blockchain technology. An early adopter in the space, Greg helped build the first large cryptocurrency index, Crypto 100, and was involved in key initial research and development for NFTs during the early moments of the now red-hot industry. Greg’s journey into blockchain eventually led to his work with Polkadot, a disruptive alternative to Ethereum, where he filed the first Polkadot grant application (C++ API) in 2019. The success of Greg’s Polkadot grants evolved into an NFT pallet that later would evolve into Unique Network, a next-generation NFT chain on Kusama and Polkadot. Greg founded Unique Network alongside Alex Mitrovich, who helped grow Greg’s enthusiasm for the NFT space. A win at Hackusama, Kusama’s hackathon, helped fuel the creation of Unique Network on Polkadot and set the stage for the official launch of the Unique TestNet 1.0 with the design and release of Substrapunks, the first NFTs in the Polkadot ecosystem. Now in 2021, Greg is helping lead the latest iteration of Unique Network’s white label marketplace, which boasts a set of advanced features and tools to power the next generation of sustainable, interactive NFTs.
