Dr. Dhanasree Jayaram is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Geopolitics and International Relations, and Co-Coordinator of Centre for Climate Studies (CCS), Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), Karnataka, India. She is also the Project Associate at Manipal Advanced Research Group (MARG) and Features Editor (Climate Policy) of Science, Technology and Security Forum (STSf). She is the Project Manager of “Climate Diplomacy”, a project sponsored by adelphi (a Berlin-based think-tank for applied research, policy analysis, and consultancy on global change issues), and supported by the German Federal Foreign Office. She has been providing local (Indian and South Asian) insights and first-hand information for the Environment, Conflict and Cooperation (ECC) Platform and climatediplomacy.org since September, 2015. The project attempts to identify the geopolitical and geostrategic risks of environmental change and developing concrete approaches for foreign policy stakeholders. She is the ESG Research Fellow representative at the Early Career Researchers Network of Network (ECR NoN). She received the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship 2018/19 to pursue postdoctoral scholarship on “climate diplomacy of the emerging economies”, at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Lausanne, Switzerland. She holds a PhD from Manipal Academy of Higher Education. Her PhD dissertation is entitled, “Military Dimensions of Environmental Security: An Indian Perspective”. She has received international and national grants including the Future Earth travel grant for early career professionals in 2017 through which she attended and presented papers at the 2017 ESG Conference held at Lund University. She received the Outreach Fellowship of Centre for Air Power Studies (CAPS) – a defence think tank in New Delhi, India – in 2011. Through this fellowship, she published a single authored volume – “Breaking out of the Green House: Indian Leadership in Times of Environmental Change” in 2012. Before enrolling for PhD at MAHE, she held the positions of Research Associate and Non-Resident Associate Fellow at CAPS in the Energy, Environment and Resource Optimisation Programme. She was a Visiting PhD Scholar at the Leiden University Institute for Area Studies (LIAS), Leiden, the Netherlands, during September 2014-June 2015. She received the Eramsus Mundus – Inter-Disciplinary Bridges in Indo-European Studies (IBIES) short-term PhD fellowship (for 10 months) in 2014. She is a Contributing Analyst/Supervisor at Wikistrat, world’s first crowdsourced consultancy. In addition, she has organised various events (including a webinar series on “Science Diplomacy and Environmental Peacebuilding” during April-May 2019, a seminar on “Regional Perspectives on Environmental Security, Conflict and Governance” at Leiden University in June 2015 and lecture/seminar series related to adelphi’s ”Environment, Conflict and Cooperation” Exhibition during 2016-17); as well as presented papers and talks at various international conferences, workshops, seminars and roundtables.
